Frank Henenlotter made the best movie of the 80s about a guy who lives with a little mutant that kills people. That was Basket Case. By crazy coincidence, Henenlotter also made the second best movie of the 80s about a guy who lives with a little mutant that kills people. That’s Brain Damage. The difference here is that this monster attaches itself to the back of the guy’s head and pokes him with a needle that gives him a state of psychedelic euphoria. The bad news for him is that it’s addictive. The worse news is that the little mutant likes to eat human brains and expects the guy to take him out every night for fresh meals. The GOOD news is that it makes for one weird horror flick with a classic blowjob-gone-wrong scene. The most memorable thing here though might be the film’s ultra-80s lighting scheme full of loud moonlight blues. It’s a neon dream in the big, big city.
