Detective Kitty O’Day (1944)

Your usual 1940s comedy/mystery programmer from Monogram Pictures. Sunny secretary Kitty O’Day becomes amateur detective Kitty O’Day when her boss is murdered and the bumbling police aren’t turning over the right stones. Of course, Kitty’s just as bumbling. She screams, faints, trips and slips her way to the identity of the killer. We’re supposed to think she’s a real cutie pie, but personally, I spent the whole movie wishing that the killer had gotten to her first.

Fifty-nine minutes of formulaic fizz. Man of a million B-movies, William Beaudine directs. Tim Ryan plays the exasperated senior police detective and co-wrote the screenplay. Followed by a sequel.
