Evil Dead II (1987)

There are many horror-comedies, but there aren’t many horror-slapstick-comedies. Enter Sam Raimi with the wild and hilarious Evil Dead II to show us how it’s done. It’s demons, blood and slime with the aesthetic of Larry, Curly and Moe. The pace is fast and the blood gushes at a gallon a minute. It’s got the exact same story as the first film and with the exact same lead actor, Bruce Campbell. His career-making performance here finds the comedy in a regular guy who, among other things, is inexplicably attacked by his own demon-possessed hand and tossed around like a rag doll by mad monsters.

A real classic, as long as you don’t expect to be scared. Followed by a third film, Army of Darkness.
