Evil Dead Trap (1988)

This eye-stabbing, neck-breaking, face-slicer from Japan addresses the hazards of being a TV news anchorwoman whose fans send her snuff videos in the mail. That’s not as fun as it sounds. Anyway, the video here is SO outrageously bloody that her bosses think it’s only a joke from some pranksters who happen to be good at Lucio Fulci-style special effects close-ups of razors slicing across flesh like a knife through cheesecake. Our intrepid reporter isn’t buying that, though. She gets a small crew together in a van to investigate the mystery at the creepy old abandoned military building on display in the videos and I don’t want to reveal too much about what happens next, but let’s just say that the van is a little less crowded on the return home. Not everybody comes back. A few of these cute Japanese girls get their cute little heads sliced up like Granny Smith apples for a salad. Knives fly, heads roll. We get snakes, we get maggots, we get a giant killer mutant fetus that shows up out of nowhere. It’s good stuff if you’re looking for blood and low-budget grime. No relation whatsoever to the Evil Dead movies. It’s not even a rip-off.
