Low-budget adaptation of Cornell Woolrich’s novella, Nightmare (originally published under the pen name William Irish), about a poor sap who dreams that he committed a murder and then wakes up with evidence that it really happened. It’s a typical journeyman noir, watchable in the wee hours and then forgotten when the sun comes up. It’s most notable for being the feature film acting debut of DeForest Kelley in the lead role. First-time director (and lower-tier pulp writer) Maxwell Shane would adapt Woolrich’s story again about ten years later under its original title.
