House of Frankenstein (1944)

house-of-frankensteinMultiple monster mayhem in this sequel to Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man. The scripts at this point in the Universal monster series are scribbled over someone’s lunch break and the directors are the cinematic equivalent to short order cooks so the cast is the most important thing. The big news here is that the great BORIS KARLOFF is back. But he’s not the Frankenstein Monster (Glenn Strange fills that role here). He’s an evil mad scientist who wants to follow in the footsteps of the original, long-deceased Dr. Frankenstein. Along the way, he revives Dracula (John Carradine), wakes up the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.) and gets the Frankenstein Monster to growl and break through some lab table restraints for us once more.

Fun, but episodic. Followed by House of Dracula.
