Mark of the Vampire (1935)

mark-of-the-vampireBela Lugosi doesn’t play Dracula here, but he may as well have, and Lionel Barrymore doesn’t play Van Helsing, but he may as well have, too, in this cobwebbed old spook show. This is horror MGM-style, which means it’s not quite committed to the scares, but it gets in a few, mostly via Carroll Borland as Lugosi’s freaky-eyed daughter. It isn’t bad if you enjoy the actors (especially Barrymore, who dominates).

This is a remake of the legendarily lost (even to this day) silent film, London After Midnight, also directed by Tod Browning.
