Night of the Creeps (1986)

An important lesson in how even the shyest, most awkward college nerd can win his dream girl if they join together to kill a bunch of little aliens that look like slugs and that jump into peoples’ mouths so they can eat their brains. There’s hope for us all. All that these two have on their side is a flamethrower and help from mustachioed Tom Adkins (star of Halloween III), who’s perfect as a police detective who carries himself like he’s in a Raymond Chandler adaptation in 1946. Even his police car is somehow a vintage model. This is primo supremo 80s camp. It’s funny and it knows it. It’s full of great lines and plays directly to the big horror fans with lots of sly movie references (check out the surnames of the characters). This is the first and best film from director Fred Dekker, who’d go on to make The Monster Squad.
