Onechanbara: Zombie Bikini Squad (2008)

onechebaraThe 942,435th zombie movie of the decade offers up a skimpy plot about a Japanese girl in a skimpy red bikini fighting off the flesh-eating undead. Eri Otoguro as Aya, our sexy zombie slayer, is so gorgeous she could jumpstart a young man’s puberty or make an old man like me go through a second one. With her weathered cowboy hat and poncho, she dresses a lot like Clint Eastwood in a Sergio Leone movie, but in a bikini. The whole world’s a big George Romero zombie wasteland and she’s out there swingin’ her sword and doing the usual gravity-defying martial arts tricks to work her way to the evil scientist who created the zombies. Along the way she runs into another hot chick, Reiko (Manami Hashimoto), dressed in black leather and wielding shotguns, and they splatter even more ghouls in ultra-stylish, techno music-scored, CGI bloodbaths, complete with digital blood splashing onto the camera lens.

A real style-over-substance kinda flick, the most suspenseful thing about the movie is wondering when Eri’s gonna toss her poncho off again and show us some skin. For that, I enjoyed this. The ending’s a little weak, though.

Based on a video game.
