That Kind of Girl (1962)

Good trashy syphilis scare drama from jolly olde England. An 18 year old platinum blonde virgin from Austria arrives in London for a job as an au pair girl. It’s one lively city, full of exciting clubs, bawdy jazz, and leering men. Guys from all walks of life vie for a taste of her strudel, from an older Lothario, to a straight-laced type with a frigid girlfriend, to a bumbling youngster whose idea of a date is inviting a girl to a Ban the Bomb march. She messes around to some degree with all of them and winds up with syphilis, which, of course, means that EVERYBODY ELSE now has syphilis, too.

And is there a doctor character here to teach us the causes and effects of syphilis? You bet. He’s played by prolific English character-actor John Wood (you’ve seen him in at least five other, more famous movies, probably) in his early days.

The story here is no great shakes, but this wins points for its drop dead gorgeous leading lady (Margaret Rose Keil) and some nice low-budget views of swinging 60s London.

The American title is Teenage Tramp.
