The Devil Bat (1940)

Fast-paced Poverty Row cult favorite with Bela Lugosi as a mad scientist who breeds killer bats trained to attack anyone who wears an experimental aftershave that he’s created. He’s the main scientific brain behind a successful cosmetics company, but his businessman bosses make most of the money. Enter Bela’s bloodthirsty bats to make things right.

The unique premise is part of the reason why B-horror fans dig this. The other part is that it offers up one of Bela Lugosi’s better mad scientist roles. He gets a lot to do here because his Dr. Carruthers is a nice guy on the surface and then a tortured, revenge-fixated killer when no one’s looking.
