The Mummy’s Hand (1940)

Fast-paced spook show about a couple of archaeologists who run into a killer mummy while out treasure hunting in the Egyptian desert. Mean old George Zucco is part of a long line of weirdos who keep the mummy alive so it can guard a princess’s tomb. When Zucco gets the chance to unleash the beast though, he gets power hungry and kidnaps a damsel who’s ripe for some distress. B-western star Dick Foran is the dashing action hero archaeologist. Wallace Ford is the comic relief guy. The whole enchilada wraps up in just sixty-six minutes.

Consider this a sequel to the 1932 Boris Karloff film The Mummy if you want, but it has nothing to do with it beyond the recycling of some of Karl Freund’s old footage during the backstory segment in the beginning. This has different characters, a different mummy, and a different, lighter mood. This is actually the start of a new series that features the mummy Kharis—probably the most iconic mummy in the movies—as the recurring villain.
