What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

The people behind this fluff from New Zealand have seen a LOT of monster movies and a LOT of reality TV. Here, they put their resulting brain damage from it all to good use.

Writer/director/performers Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are on top of their vampire lore and they also know exactly how to parody the cornball confrontations, revelations and interventions that are staples of modern television. They can’t keep the movie’s overall joke—a camera crew follows around bickering vampire roommates, each of whom is a different archetype—from getting old, but it has its moments. This is a film from the “clever” school of comedy. That means that your ass is in little danger of being laughed off, but you might smirk. I’m okay with some smirks now and then.
