Aphrodisiac!: The Sexual Secret of Marijuana (1971)

This hilarious forty-minute half-documentary/half-sexploitation film is the tongue-in-cheek, pro-pot antithesis of Reefer Madness. Alternating with relatively serious history lesson segments about marijuana use in America is a trilogy of dramatized, pornographic testimonials from “regular people” (played by porn stars) about how weed worked magic on their troubled sex lives.

A frosty-cunted housewife (Maria Arnold) becomes an insatiable sex kitten after her husband quietly doses her with marijuana cookies. A quick-shooter (John Holmes) finds that pot helps him last longer when he butters his secretary’s muffin after hours at the office. The best episode though, is easily the final one, in which an inexperienced little white college girl (Eve Orlon) hooks up with a burly black college guy at the most pathetic campus war protest ever filmed.

They get acquainted and he shares a joint with her, which leads to fierce sex in the bushes. “My first pot, my first sex, and my first black“, she tells us in her bizarre narration. From there she proceeds to describe the whole experience in dessert metaphors (A few choice quotes: “His beautiful brown body reminded me of the little chocolate babies we used to eat as kids“, “When he jammed his lollipop between my lower lips, I sucked him hungrily“, “The pot made me remember my childhood when my parents wouldn’t let me eat candy because of my acne, but now they weren’t around to stop me“.) You also get a demonstration on how to roll a joint (with American flag rolling papers), suggestions for roach clips, as well as a discussion of the advantages of pipes, hookahs, and homemade toilet paper roll steam rollers.

Supposedly the original version of this boasted hardcore penetration inserts in the sex scenes. If so, the edit on Something Weird’s Alice in Acidland DVD, on which Aphrodisiac is a bonus feature, excludes them, but don’t let that stop you from seeing this.
