Badman’s Territory (1946)

badmans-territoryMuch like how 1944’s House of Frankenstein brings together several popular monsters into one film, so does this one, but with famous Old West outlaws. Actors playing Jesse James, the Dalton gang, Belle Star, and Sam Bass all make dull, glorified cameos in this story of a Texas sheriff (Randolph Scott) looking for his missing brother in a lawless Oklahoma territory. Even cult favorite scary tough guy Lawrence Tierney barely has a pulse here as Jesse James. Randolph Scott is a great Western movie hero as always though, sturdy and effortless in his comforting charisma. He’s the best reason to see this. Unless you’re hot for Gabby Hayes.

Beware of the DVD. It’s colorized. Why Ted Turner’s movie-colorizing demons went to work on this film, I don’t know. If you watch it, be sure to turn the color down on your TV.
